I follow this woman on social media and her name is Stephanie Nielson. If you are a Mormon, this name will probably ring some bells. But, even if you're not, you might have heard of her. In 2008, her and her husband Christian, were in a horrible plane crash that burned 80% of her body and him breaking his back. Somehow they survived and lived to tell the tale. She wrote a book about her memories of the crash and her first year of the most pain she's ever endured. And she just so happens to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Her faith and the help of her family, got her through that horrible recovery.
I read this book in ONE day. That's how good it was and not to mention anything short of inspiring. I tried to put myself in her shoes- I couldn't. What she went through was unimaginable. I recommend this book to anyone who is struggling with their own trials and daily ups and downs. It will really change your perspective on things.
I struggle with self-confidence and how I look in the eyes of others, but after reading this book, I have never felt so grateful for the body I have! I never realized how much I take my body for granted and the relationship I have for my husband. Now when I look in the mirror, I'm not going to point out my flaws. I'm going to embrace that I have skin without scars and limbs that preform their proper functions.
There was one passage in the book that I wanted to share with you all:
"Your heart matters most, so be gentler and more patient with yourself, and their hearts matter most, too, so be kinder and more compassionate to others. It's a beautiful heart, not a perfect body, that leads to a beautiful life."
